Using OKmail with Becky

What you need to know

Note 1: If you already know how to set up your client, and you already understand the information below, see this FAQ entry for the server information you need to set up your e-mail client. The Troubleshooting Issues section at the bottom of this page may be helpful if you have problems.

In order to use Becky with OKmail, you'll need to enter the following information:

Thanks to Raspal Seni for these instructions!

Incoming/Outgoing Server Setup

  1. Launch Becky, select 'Mailbox' from the 'File' menu and then click on 'New Mailbox'.
  2. You'll be presented with the 'Create New Mailbox' dialog box. Enter a descriptive name for this account, for example, 'OKmail Account'. Click the 'Mail Protocol' drop down menu and select 'IMAP4rev1'. Click 'OK'
  3. In the next screen, enter your name in the 'Your Name' field and your OKmail email address in the 'E-mail Address' field.
  4. In the 'IMAP (Mail) Server' and 'SMTP Server' fields, enter 'mail.messagingengine.com'. Enter your OKmail address in the 'UserID' field, and your OKmail password in the 'Password' field. The check box that says 'Connect on Opening Mailbox' will be unchecked by default. Click on it to enable it.

NB:The above instructions assume that you are a member. If you are a guest, you will need to use your Internet Service Provider's SMTP server; in the SMTP server section below use your ISP's SMTP server name, and NOT 'mail.messagingengine.com'. You will need to contact your ISP if you do not know their SMTP server name. Or simply purchase a membership, which is a setup fee of $14.95; click 'Upgrade' on the 'Preferences' screen to do this.

  5. Now click the 'Misc.' tab. In the 'SMTP Auth' section, enter your OKmail email address in the 'User ID' field and the OKmail password in the 'Password' field'. Click 'OK'
  6. You should now see a new server icon in the folders list on the left with the name you entered in step 2. You can now use Becky to access all your emails in your OKmail account.
  7. You can move or copy messages from the OKmail Inbox to a local folder on Becky, using drag and drop to view them later, offline. Just drag the message for moving or Ctrl+drag for copying.
